The final of the “PRM Cup 2024” of the German Prime League was played in League of Legends at the weekend. The team of the leading German Twitch streamers for LoL, NNO, took on the Unicorns of Love. A decision against the streamer team is now being sharply criticized.
What kind of match was that? The “PRM Cup 2024” is the last tournament in the German LoL of a year. The teams then regroup.
32 teams take part in the event. The tournament started on September 30th. – the final took place on October 25th. instead of.
In the final, NNO met the Unicorns of Love – Sexy Edition.
Agurin is among the owners of NNO:
Team NNO is on the winning track, but the match is canceled after a break
What was the crucial point? The teams played the first two matches evenly 1-1.
In Match 3, NNO was ahead with a decent gold lead after 17 minutes and it looked as if they could win the teamfight and win the match in their favor.
But then a break was ordered because a game-changing bug had apparently occurred to the detriment of the Unicorns of Love.
The game was paused for an hour and ultimately it was decided that the match would not count until then and would be canceled. A “remake” was ordered.
NNO players tilt after verdict, lose match 3
This was the impact of the decision: NNO’s lead was gone, the new draft was significantly more advantageous for Unicorns of Love and they were able to win game 3.
After the break and the decision, the NNO players seemed pissed off and seemed to be unfocused.
As a result, NNO managed a comeback in game 4, but the Unicorns of Love won game 5 again and took the cup.
Prime League explains controversial decision in a statement
Why was this decision made? The Prime League said in a statement (via x):
The bug that caused Match 3 to be canceled was that Sion’s ultimate had no audible effect. Normally, a global sound is played that alerts all players: Sion has fired his ultimate, is immune to crowd control and is moving faster.
Normally, says the Prime League, they would have had to order a chronobreak, i.e. rewinding the match to the time when the bug occurred. However, there was no one from Riot available who could carry out such a chronobreak, so the entire match had to be replayed.
NNO appealed the decision because the bug had already appeared before and the Unicorns must have been aware of it. But no evidence could be found that the Unicorns had noticed the Sion bug beforehand. The objection was therefore rejected.
They took a lot of time to make the decision, which can also be seen in the long break in the game.
Twitch streamers went crazy during the match
How did the streamers react during the match? Team NNO belongs to 5 of the leading German Twitch streamers. They were live on Twitch during the break in the match and were absolutely crazy.
They were upset about the decision to take away their clear advantage because of such a trivial matter. They spoke of a scandalous verdict and an undignified end for their team, because the match was NNO Prime’s last game.
Streamer calms down after the match: Excitement doesn’t change anything
How do you react after the match? The largest German Twitch streamer on LoL, Frederick “NoWay” Hinteregger, has now clearly cooled down. He is now trying to calm the heated tempers and says: He was also emotional, but he would like to ask the fans not to verbally attack either the Prime League or the Unicorns of Love.
It wouldn’t change the situation. The wave of hate is now unnecessary.
Overall, the mood among the comments is heated. NNO fans in particular say that the Prime League has embarrassed itself here.
The fact that a remake was ordered because the chronobreak was technically not possible is very poorly received.
Live, the streamers complained about their opponents Unicorns of Love: They should have noticed the bug with Sion much earlier and would have “saved the protest” in case they lost a team fight and then voiced it. That is simply unsportsmanlike.
The Prime League isn’t having an easy time of it at the moment. Apparently there are some changes in store for 2025, which will ensure that players’ salaries will fall significantly and the level of sport will decline. The teams are already adapting to the changed situation: In LoL, the HandOfBlood team is now replacing a top performer with a Twitch streamer (33)
