Vacationing at home in Sweden, pso-called “home stay”, has become increasingly popular in recent years, according to Maria Ros Hjelm, secretary general of the Swedish Tourist Association (STF).
In Nyhetsmorgon, she gives her best tips on Swedish summer gems to visit this summer as well.
– Sweden is a whole smorgasbord – there is so much nice to experience, she says.
Clean lakes, idyllic archipelago islands or beautiful hiking trails – Sweden can offer many summer gems in nature, according to Maria Ros Hjelm at the Swedish Tourist Association.
It is particularly beautiful, for example, at lake Yngen east of Filipstad, in Värmland, she says.
– It is one of Sweden’s cleanest lakes. Here you can really enjoy being in the countryside.
And there is a lot of summer idyll in our long country, she believes. From the Skellefteå archipelago, to the savannah in the Närsholmen nature reserve on Gotland, to red houses and white knots on Stora Kalholmen in the Stockholm archipelago.
– Sweden is a whole smorgasbord – there is so much nice to experience.
Visit national parks
Among other things, there are 30 national parks to choose from.
– The tip for this summer is to visit a national park where you have not been before.
She strikes a special blow for Tresticklan’s national park in Dalsland. Here is also the lake Stora Le, which is located just outside the national park.
– Tresticklans is the largest forest area in southern Sweden that is completely untouched. I want to fight for that. Magical walk. Incredible beautiful!
But remember that Right of public access does not apply in the national parks – there are special rules that apply that you must read about before the visit, says Maria Ros Hjelm.
Midnight sun
If, on the other hand, you prefer mighty mountains, blooming mountain meadows and Scandinavia’s largest mountain lake, you can instead go to Abisko in the northern part of Sweden, says the general secretary.
Here you can catch many hours of sunshine because it is the midnight sun until mid-July.
– You can go out and hike in the middle of the night. It’s an old love that never rusts.
Abisko is magical and to experience that midnight sun, she says.
Along the hiking trails, there are also quite a few mountain stations where you can spend the night. From there, hikers can also take shorter trips along the mountain range, according to Maria Ros Hjeml.
