Back to the Betonbuurt where not everyone recognizes themselves in the picture. “I have contact with everyone,” says 74-year-old Mieke. “You have to take care of each other. I think that is very important.” Yet the reality is that sometimes a street or corner can be enough to live completely past each other. Lesley also sees it with him on the square. Since an old block of houses there was replaced five years ago by a row of new-build homes, the dynamics have changed. “I speak to all my neighbors, but the people across the street a lot less,” says Lesley.
The gap between rich and poor is increasing, but how can these groups come into better contact with each other?
