Gang members terrorized Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After the gang leader Matheus da Silva Rezende, nicknamed “Faustao”, was killed by the police, gang members set fire to more than 35 buses, trains and 4 trucks in different parts of the city in retaliation.

“HARD FIGHT PROMISE”

Speaking after the biggest attacks in Brazilian history, Rio de Janeiro Governor Claudio Castro described the attacks as “acts of terrorism” and promised to retaliate against the attacks.

Governor Castro stated that 12 criminals were arrested regarding the attacks and said, “I have no doubt that tomorrow will be calmer and more orderly.” Governor Castro warned criminals not to dare defy the state, promising to wage a “tough fight” against such criminals 24/7.

SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED

After the attacks, 45 schools were closed for security reasons. Municipalities warned citizens to stay away from affected areas. It was reported that the attacks took place in Cosmos, Campo Grande, Inhoaiba, Guaratiba, Madureira, Paciência, Santa Cruz, Sepetiba and Recreio dos Bandeirantes regions, where at least 1 million people live.

The violence began hours after the shooting of 24-year-old Rezende, nicknamed “Faustao”, who was allegedly the nephew of Luis Antonio da Silva Braga, one of the most brutal paramilitary leaders nicknamed “Zinho”.
