The challenges of the gang shootings affect the whole society. In healthcare, you become the first instance to meet those affected, with the task of trying to save lives.
– It happens that injured people are dropped off via friends or by taxis via our emergency department, then they may have weapons on them. It has happened that we find weapons when we do an initial investigation. It can be difficult to deal with, of course, says Gunnar Sandersjöö, who is an orthopedist and director of operations for the Trauma Center at Karolinska Hospital in Solna.
Martin Järborg: How is the security in your department?
– We think it is quite good. We have an inner shell protection just like in this TV studio. It’s not that easy to get in here. We also have our own guards and in the worst case, the police can put a ring around this if necessary and it seems to have happened.
Do you as staff feel safe?
– We as staff often feel safe, the most troublesome is if you find a weapon or a hand grenade, which has happened at some point and it can be a bit tiring, says Gunnar Sandersjöö in Nyhetsmorgon.
