Rijkswaterstaat has been working for a few weekends to install hollow pipes between the towers and the road surface of the bridge, through which the steel cables will run. “Due to the growth of increasingly heavy freight and car traffic, the load on the bridge has increased considerably in recent decades,” writes Rijkswaterstaat. “In order to ensure safe use of the bridge in the future, maintenance will take place until mid-2025. The biggest job is replacing the steel cables.”
