The Galaxy Watch 5 and 5 Pro, which embody the new generation of connected watches from Samsung, constitute an evolution rather than a revolution, by acquiring a temperature sensor and greater autonomy.
During its Galaxy Unpacked conference on August 10, Samsung unveiled the new products in its Galaxy range, the Z Fold 4, the Z Flip 4, the Ears Buds 2 Pro, but also its new generation of connected watches, with the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. If most of the information was already known because of leaks, indiscretions and other predictions, here they are all the same official. And unsurprisingly, this new generation marks an evolution rather than a revolution.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and 5 Pro: an upgraded battery
The Galaxy Wacth 5 and 5 Pro differ mainly in their size and materials. If they both have a rather sleek design, the Galaxy Watch 5 with a 40mm screen is available in graphite silver or rose gold, and graphite silver or blue for the one with a 44mm screen. However, it is possible to create a connected watch in its image thanks to the many bracelets and dials available with the Bespoke Edition. As for the Watch 5 Pro, it has a one-size-fits-all 45mm screen and is available in black or titanium. It is made of sapphire crystal and titanium, particularly resistant materials. Both have a sapphire crystal AMOLED screen, which makes it 60% more resistant than that of the previous model, protecting it from the small bumps and scratches of everyday life.
One of the strong points of the Watch 5 and 5 Pro compared to their predecessor is undoubtedly their autonomy – a point which was the subject of criticism. Samsung has managed to integrate larger capacity batteries. The batteries of the Watch 5 40mm and 44mm are 284 mAh and 410 mAh respectively – compared to 247 mAh previously, or only one day of autonomy. As for the 5 Pro, its battery has a capacity of 590 mAh, with a shortened charging time – it takes 30 minutes to go from 0 to 45%. According to the firm, the autonomy reaches 80 hours with normal use, and 20 hours if the GPS is constantly on.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and 5 Pro: new functions to follow???
The Galaxy Watch 5 take over the famous BioActive sensor – which measures heart rate, blood oxygenation rate, stress level, blood pressure, and which was already present on the Watch 4 – as well as the electrocardiogram and the analysis of body composition, but with more precision thanks to a larger surface area and better contact with the wrist. However, they can now analyze sleep with Sleep Scores, which takes into account the different stages of sleep, the level of oxygen in the blood and which detects snoring. They even offer personalized coaching – the Sleep Coaching function – through the app, with daily missions to help us sleep better. They can also measure body temperature, while benefiting from compatibility with Google Assistant.
More oriented towards sports activities, the 5 Pro has “point by point” voice guidance with vibrations, and the function Guided return makes it easy to return to the starting point after a session on unmarked terrain. In the same spirit, exercise histories and GPX tracks can now be exported via the application.
