The gable frame can be taken down before Christmas

The Gävlebuck is eaten by birds and risks not being able to stand for the rest of the season.
– It’s really sad, says the goat’s press spokesperson, Anna-Karin Niemann to TV4 Nyheterna.

Tomorrow, Thursday, the goat committee will hold a crisis meeting to decide whether the Gävle goat can remain or whether it needs to be taken down for Christmas.

– We are considering whether to take it down earlier, says the goat’s press spokesperson to Anna-Karin Niemann,

– It’s really sad, she continues.

Eaten by birds

Usually the Gävlebocken is under threat from pyromaniacs, but this year a new threat comes from an unexpected direction. The goat risks being eaten by birds.

– Unfortunately, it has gotten worse. It is no longer possible to patch and repair, says Anna-Karin Niemann.

The reason is this year’s poor harvest and the summer’s wet weather. The rain caused the straw to lie down and therefore the grains remained on the straw. It has attracted birds who have realized that the buck is now full of food.

– There is straw on the ground, says Anna-Karin Niemann.
