The future of the green bag is secured – optical waste sorting continues in Halmstad

This means that plastic, cardboard, metal and newspapers must be collected and sorted in an expanded facility for optical sorting as early as 2025.

The alternative was so-called four-compartment bins where the rubbish is sorted directly into the bin, a proposal that was pushed by the Center Party, the Liberals, the Left Party and the Green Party. With the vote numbers 57 to 14, however, the council decided to develop the optical sorting we have today.

The decision in the council means that municipal Halmstad energy and environment will receive an additional investment of a maximum of 54 million for the expansion of the optical sorting facility.
