The Navy CIS crime stories have been very popular for over 20 years. An upcoming milestone proves how enormous the series franchise that has grown from this is: the 1000th episode of NCIS will be shown on US television next week. But there is double reason for fans to be happy, because After the current 21st season it is far from over.
NCIS continues with season 22, but the fate of a spin-off is still unclear
The US broadcaster CBS has one NCIS season 22 officially ordered. This is reported by TVLine, among others. But the extension is not entirely surprising. After all, NCIS continues to be a huge ratings success, attracting around 9.7 million people to TV screens in the USA every week.
The current 21st season, whose start was significantly delayed due to the Hollywood strikes last year, only consists of 10 episodes. These were never intended as the conclusion to the crime series. There was therefore no serious risk of NCIS being canceled.

The future of the spin-off NCIS: Sydney was also recently decided with an extension for season 2. However, the fate of the offshoot NCIS: Hawaii is unclear, whose third season can currently be seen in the USA on CBS. We will find out whether the spin-off will be extended or canceled in May at the latest. Then the annual Upfront event is coming up, at which the largest US broadcasters present their series program for the coming TV season.
Sufficient NCIS supplies have already been ensured. In addition to the 22nd season of the main series, two new spin-off series are expected to start this year: the Gibbs prestory NCIS: Origins and the return of Tony and Ziva in NCIS: Europe.
