For fans of home sports, it is sometimes complicated to follow lessons on a screen. Motivation can fade quickly. There is a solution: the connected mirror. With this accessory, users can enjoy an experience as close as possible to physical coaching, but at home.

We have known for a few years now about connected bathroom mirrors capable of diagnosing skin and hair. Another kind of connected mirrors is now appearing in our homes and apartments: connected fitness mirrors.

    A real virtual coach

The accessory aims to replace your sports coach in the gym (the one where you no longer set foot since you spend your days working from home) by offering fully configurable sports sessions. You can choose your activity (yoga, cardio, muscle strengthening, zumba…), your level of difficulty and the duration of your class.

The movements and exercises to be performed are displayed on the mirror, equipped with a front camera and speakers that allow a virtual coach (or an artificial intelligence) to observe you and correct your movements and postures if necessary. At the end of your session, in order to evaluate you, a lot of information is displayed on the touch screen of the mirror.

It is not necessary to have a large space to install this kind of accessories. Most fitness mirrors can be wall mounted or free standing.

A high cost: mirror + monthly subscription

On the price side, it takes between 1200 and 2000 euros to afford a connected fitness mirror. To this amount must be added a monthly subscription of a few tens of euros which gives access to sessions and exercises. The different brands can offer to participate in online or duo courses.

In France, the brand Union recently launched on the market with a vertical mirror 1m40 high, sold at 1500 euros. Subscription to the application is offered at 39 euros per month. The company plans to make its first deliveries in June 2022. On the US side, many companies are already in the market like Mirror, Tempo Studio or Echelon.

High-tech sports mirrors are growing in popularity as are smart wellness mirrors. These mirrors use sensors associated with artificial intelligence to assess the skin or the health of a user. So, soon smart mirrors everywhere in the house?
