The future is uncertain for the Roman theater on Gotland – the entire board is leaving

– It is with a mixture of pride and great sadness that we, the owners and the board of Romateatern, announce that it is time for us to move on in life, writes project manager Eva Carlberg in a dispatch.

The Roman Theater started in 1988 and over the years has become famous for staging performances by William Shakespeare in the Roman monastery ruins. Since 2014, the current board has run the business. But now they have decided to move on.

– We have been driven by a desire for it and as idealistic as we have been, you can only manage for a certain time, then you need to move on, says Eva Carlberg to Helagotland.se

There is hope that new players can take over.

“Now it’s time to leave room for others to step in and maybe create something new (…) We are therefore calling for interested parties who want to take over the place, fixtures, audience and possibly brand”, writes Eva Carlberg.
