The staff at a funeral home in Nebraska in the US were shocked to discover that the “corpse” they were preparing for a funeral was still breathing.

The 74-year-old woman had been declared dead two hours earlier by the staff at the retirement home where she lived and then delivered to the funeral home. But when a person from the staff at the agency discovered that she was breathing, they started with life-saving measures and called both an ambulance and the emergency services.

The police are investigating

The 74-year-old was taken to hospital and her relatives were informed of what had happened. She was treated in hospital before she died several hours later, the same day.

“I’ve been doing this job for 31 years and I’ve never been involved in anything like this,” said Ben Houchin, the local police district commander in Lincoln, Nebraska to the local television channel KETV.

The police are now investigating the incident, but according to Houchin, no crime is suspected. Neither the retirement home nor the funeral home have spoken to the media.
