(Finance) – A further boost to environmental sustainability with an approach that starts from cultural innovation: the customer and his demand at the center of the operational processes, partnerships and synergies, environmental, economic and social sustainability as a beacon for achieving the challenging objectives to be achieved to become a European logistics player.
The FS Group Logistics Hub won the “Logistician of the Year“, the recognition, Assologistica in collaboration with Euromerci which wants to recognize operators in the logistics and transport sector for their merits in relation to projects, services and solutions that have contributed to the innovation of the sector over the last year. An award that celebrates companies that stand out for innovation, operational efficiency and significant contribution to the growth of the sector.
To collect the prize, Silvio Damagini, CEO of Mercitalia Railwho underlined the importance of an integrated approach to guarantee a more efficient, sustainable and integrated future “With this project, operational and economic efficiency marries sustainability in terms of reducing environmental impact, demonstrating that it is possible to pursue these objectives in a synergistic way. It is a virtuous example of mixed mobility, unique in its kind, which has allowed a saving of 90% in polluting emissions compared to traditional road travel, in line with the sustainable objectives of the Logistics Hub and the partners involved. We are very proud of this important recognition which represents a significant achievement but also a stimulus to continue to improve the quality and efficiency of the services we offer to our customers”.
The key word to achieve these objectives was sea-rubber-iron integrationnecessary to make rail transport the vector for transporting goods over long distances (from 300 km up), leaving the so-called first and last mile to road transport. Also because every truck removed from roads and motorways means tons less CO2 in the atmosphere.
A virtuous example of mixed mobility to develop a low-emission intermodal network, in line with the sustainable objectives of the three companies. Thanks to the collaboration between Logistics Hub of the FS Group, led by Sabrina De Filippis, the Baraclit group and the Grendi groupfor the first time in Italy concrete products travel first by train, which measures over 400 metres, then by national maritime transport to Sardinia and finally by last mile truck delivery. A combination of transport methods that has allowed us to optimize yield and minimize the environmental impact as much as possible, taking 600 trucks off the roads and avoiding the emission of approximately 210 tonnes of CO2 compared to transport by heavy vehicle on the road.
Increasing the share of goods transported by rail and continuing to develop the value chain is one of the objectives to contribute to the relaunch of goods traffic in Italy, strengthening connections between ports and national terminals with the European railway network.
