(Finance) – The Logistics Hub of the FS Italiane Group driven by Sabrina De Filippis, CEO of Mercitalia Logisticsis increasingly committed to offering solutions integrated and sustainable logisticsfor the transport of goods from production plants to destination points.
“For the supply chain large-scale distribution we move further every year 800 thousand tons of goods through 900 trains per year“, explained De Filippis, during the Global Sustainability Summit, organized by the Gambero Rosso Foundation in Turin. “We thus contribute to the sustainability of the food supply chain – he added – a sector that is important to us and on which we are further focusing”.
In the field agri-foodthe Logistics Hub aims to strengthen the freight transport infrastructure and give a boost to modal shifttrying to increase the percentage of goods transported by rail which is stuck at 11% compared to the European 17%.
The CEO confirmed that Mercitalia Logistics plans to “expand the network through partnerships and collaborations with the aim of becoming the European player of integrated logistics, which allows rubber-iron integration to manage the entire value chain, from the first to the last mile and to offer quality solutions close to the needs of businesses and territories.
With the 2022-2031 industrial plan, the Group aims to double the share of rail freight trafficto reach European targets, investing above all in digitalisation of the supply chain and on partnerships strategic strategies useful for expanding its international presence: with the acquisition of the freight transport company Exploris, Mercitalia Logistics has become the second rail freight transport operator in Germany and has extended the presence of the logistics hub in 11 European countries.
