Charlotte Baris: When we look at the leaders of French capitalism, we distinguish several “families” of big bosses. First of all, there are the sons of entrepreneurs, who have built a great empire from the small family company – I am thinking of Bernard Arnault, Vincent Bolloré or Gérard Mulliez… There are also the “disruptive” young guns, who have established themselves thanks to their iconoclastic style – Xavier Niel for example is one of them… And finally, there are the foreign billionaires who perceive France as an El Dorado for developing their activities. The main character on the cover of L’Express this week is part of this third category… In the “large foreign investors” family, I would like… the Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky.

Originally, Kretinsky made his fortune in the Czech Republic by taking the helm of EPH, one of the largest energy companies in Europe. In just 5 years, Kretinsky has become a key investor in the Parisian market. He has formed a small press group with emblematic brands such as Marianne Or She, he bought the Saint-Avold coal-fired power station and recently came to the aid of the Casino group, in the midst of an economic slump. Daniel Kretinsky seems unstoppable, unless with his latest conquest – Atos, one of the leaders in cybersecurity in France – he has stumbled upon a bone. A complaint for corruption was notably filed with the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office… And the sale of its shares in the newspaper The world a few days ago, proves that the darling of French business circles does not always have the means to achieve his ambitions.

All this and much more, two reporters from L’Express tell it in a great exclusive story on the front page of our magazine this week… And we discuss it with them in this episode of La Loupe.
