They do everything to help their sick friend: “Have brought in several hundred people”
If 17-year-old Elian does not receive a bone marrow transplant within two months, he risks dying.
Now the friends Hampus and Charlie do everything to find a donor.
– It still feels good to be able to do something, we do what we can, says Charlie.
17-year-old Elian is waiting to get a bone marrow transplant, if he doesn’t get it within two months, he risks dying, as TV4 Nyheterna reported earlier. But it is difficult to find a matching donor, and therefore Elian’s friends are now helping to find just that, which SVT Småland reported on.
By being visible with QR codes, badges and t-shirts in a shopping center in Kalmar, the 17-year-olds Hampus and Charlie want to attract more young people, especially boys, to register in The Tobias register.
– We have been standing here all day to try to attract people and find someone who can match Elian. It has gone very well and we have brought in several hundred people. It’s fun to see that people get involved and want to help. People have voluntarily come forward to test themselves, says Charlie.
“The chance to save a life”
The friends were shocked to learn that Elian suffered from aplastic anaemia, which means that the bone marrow does not produce enough blood.
– We try to be there for Elian in the present and you just want to help all you can, says Charlie.
They would have tested themselves if they could, but to be allowed to do so you have to be between 18 and 35 years old. Now they invite everyone else to take a look The Tobias register to see if you can help.
– It’s not complicated, it’s very simple and you have the chance to save a life, says Charlie.
