A family with small children moved back to Gaza earlier this year, after having lived in Sweden for several years. Both parents have worked as doctors in southern Sweden, but now the father’s friend Hani Altatari cannot get hold of his friend.
– I have tried and tried in all different ways but it didn’t work. It is a person you know and after a day or an hour there is no contact at all. You think that the person might be dead all of a sudden. It’s very hard, he says.
Tells about the last call
In his last conversation with his friend in Gaza, the bombs were heard falling outside. Then he told how he handles the nightly airstrikes against Gaza.
– The only thing he can do is throw himself at his children to protect them, so he can get hurt and not them, says Hani Altatari.
SVT has applied to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which currently has no information to provide about Hani’s friend’s family.
Has family in Gaza
Hani Altatari is from Gaza himself and has many friends and family in the region, which has now turned into a war zone. He says that it is difficult to get in touch with loved ones who are in the Gaza Strip, something that affects him psychologically.
– I don’t feel well at all. It’s not just because of my friend, but I’m from there myself and I know a lot of people there, including my family, he says and adds:
– You never know, every second counts. I call as many as I want because you never know. Maybe it could be the last time.
