And if you had to have a beer with a political figure, who would you choose? And what would you talk about? This is what the Ifop study for Coriolink revealed by Le Figaro reveals. The ranking may be surprising.
Very institutionalized in each American election, the “beer test” or “a beer with” makes it possible to measure the degree of sympathy felt by citizens towards political figures. The results of the latest poll are in. Without surprise, Emmanuel Macron is not at the top of the ranking, and the French would prefer to toast with Édouard Philippe or Marine Le Pen. The President of the Republic is losing points and is well ahead of his former Prime Minister, the finalist in the last two presidential elections and Gabriel Attal, his Minister of National Education. A large third of the country would actually prefer to toast with one of these three political figures rather than with the head of state.
Far behind in the ranking, we find Gérald Darmanin and Élisabeth Borne. And it is with Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Olivier Faure and Sandrine Rousseau that the population would least like to drink a beer, all three of whom arrive at the end of the ranking.
Political personality | Rather want | Totally want | Total |
Édouard Philippe | 28 | 9 | 37 |
Marine Le Pen | 18 | 17 | 35 |
Gabriel Attal | 23 | 11 | 34 |
Emmanuel Macron | 16 | 12 | 28 |
Marion Maréchal | 18 | 9 | 27 |
Fabien Roussel | 20 | 5 | 25 |
Bruno Le Maire | 17 | 7 | 24 |
Gerald Darmanin | 18 | 5 | 23 |
François Ruffin | 14 | 8 | 22 |
Elisabeth Borne | 15 | 6 | 21 |

Marine Le Pen is the only one to progress in the ranking since the launch of the test and has gained 10 points in 5 years. Emmanuel Macron, for his part, shows a clear decline and goes from 44% in 2017 to 28% in 2023. For his part, Gabriel Attal makes a spectacular entry and places himself in 3rd position of the political personality with whom the French would like to discuss around ‘a glass.
But actually, have a beer with a politician to tell him what? What topics would you like to discuss with these politicians over a beer? In first position, the French say they want to discuss purchasing power and rising prices (73%), a major concern. Then, they would be ready to toast with politicians to “verify the knowledge” of political leaders of “people’s real lives” (60%). Far behind are the themes of housing and the difficulties of finding accommodation (32%), climate change (29%), terrorist threats (28%), or the international situation with the war in Ukraine and the Israeli conflict. -Palestinian (21%) who would be discussed over a beer.
