Dreaming of losing your teeth, falling off a cliff, losing a loved one… is very common. But not as much as cheating on his/her partner! Indeed, this unsuitable dream is at the top of the French ranking according to a new study broadcast on “Sleep Seeker”.
Infidelity: the most common dream
We spend about a third of our life sleeping and a significant part of that time dreaming. But of what ? From whom? In an attempt to answer these questions, the company “Sleep Seeker” examined Google searches of the 38 member countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
She also listed the 28 most common dreams (dog, cats, pregnancy, chase…) and the most frequent types of dream (lucid, awake…).
And what emerges from the study is rather edifying: in France, the most searched dream on Google is the one involving infidelity. In total, the dream of infidelity comes up almost 3650 times a year.
Many French people would therefore seek, in the early morning, to understand why they are “went elsewhere” during their dreams. The site states that “the other person involved in the dream may symbolize something you desire in your own life or possess an attribute you admire”.
The dream of flying in the open air occupies the second step of the podium. This action can reflect a feeling of freedom or, conversely, the need to free oneself from a difficult situation.
Then comes the snake dream. This dream can”positive or negative, with large snakes sometimes representing good fortune and aggressive snakes potentially representing toxic people”specifies the site.
In the world, dreams of snakes, deception and flying through the air are the most common. Then come dreams of cats, dogs, pregnancy, car chases and hair loss.
HOW TO INTERPRET A DREAM OF INFIDELITY?
Make love with an American actress or actor? Dreaming of changing jobs? Dreaming of divorce? Several scenarios have been tested and can be explained in different ways.
- For Freudwhich focuses its interpretation on relationships of a sexual nature, to dream of infidelity means dissatisfaction in his sex life. You may also feel the need to have a relationship that is less engaging than the one you experience on a daily basis. This dream is often a sign of some maturity.
- Jung sends its interpretations back to itself. Yes, it is possible to be unfaithful to oneself! We refuse to face the need to grow. Through this type of dream, you must become aware of a deep need to change elements of your daily life.
- In the esoteric approachesthis dream takes on a premonitory character : mistrust ! A threat may be coming to your relationship.
- According to Islam, this dream is quite different… It’s highly positive since we confine infidelity to dreams so as not to reproduce adultery in everyday life!

What are the benefits of dreams?
Dreaming is a spontaneous phenomenon. Dreams are also essential to our psychic balance:
- They train us to respond appropriately and effectively (including helping us prepare for real-life emergencies);
- They allow us to find solutions to problems on which we have ruminated;
- They make it possible to attenuate the negative impact of an event by reactivating it in another context;
- They are used to regulate our emotions, especially those felt during the day.
