France’s minority government has fallen after a vote of no confidence by the opposition on Wednesday.

Marine Le Pen the far-right party, the National Alliance, together with the left, voted for a motion of no confidence.

331 parliamentarians voted for no confidence. In total, there are 574 representatives in the parliament.

The opposition was presented by the Prime Minister Michel Barnier no confidence in the government because Barnier ran through the social security cuts on Monday without a parliamentary vote.

The goal of the Barnier government has been to cut the deficit of the French public finances. In order to reach the goal, he has proposed tax increases and spending cuts of 60 billion euros.

The left- and right-wing opposition have opposed Barnier’s adjustment measures.

The French government has not been defeated in a confidence vote since 1962.
