    What does it mean to be in a relationship?

    According to the study carried out by Durex with Ipsos, according to the French, “be in a relationship” is a term that has different meanings. Interpretations that vary depending on age and person.

    Thus, for 78% of respondents, the expression would mean that the two partners have projects together. For 71% of them, the term refers more to being in love. Finally, 68% of those questioned talk about “couple” when they live together.

    However, the study specifies that 18-34 year olds have a slightly different opinion:

    “Be in a relationship” refers to being in love for 77% of them, while 71% feel committed when they have projects together. 67% of this age group use this term when they are faithful to each other.

    Social pressure for many French people

    Finding the ideal partner is not an easy task! Before finding someone with whom you feel perfectly yourself, it may take a little time… A waiting period that some consider too long, in particular because of the pressure imposed by society.

    The study reveals that 40% of singles in France have already felt a “social pressure” to form a couple. A feeling which would also be more present among women who are 45% compared to 35% among men. In most cases, it is mainly family or friends who are at the origin of this feeling of guilt. Many consider this status a life accomplishment.

    It is still important to remember that there is no point in putting pressure on yourself when it comes to a romantic relationship.
