The French do not like François Bayrou: the three shock polls which weaken him

The French do not like Francois Bayrou the three shock

The Prime Minister is the most unpopular of all the heads of government appointed by Emmanuel Macron since 2017. The poll numbers are terrible for him.

François Bayrou managed to establish himself as the best option in the eyes of Emmanuel Macron for Matignon. But the Prime Minister must now convince beyond the Elysée and the polls show that the task is more “Himalayan” than the adoption of the next budget. Because the figures are stubborn: the French do not like the political personality of François Bayrou or what he embodies as a public actor. In any case, he is widely rejected by public opinion, a clear majority of which believes that he is not the right person to govern the country.

An Elabe study for Les Echospublished on January 9, reports that only “20% of French people trust François Bayrou as Prime Minister”, while 67% do not trust him. “A level very far from those recorded by his predecessors when they took office,” adds the institute, which provides details: “Politically, the confidence rating of the new prime minister is even more fragile than that of the president among the voters of Emmanuel Macron (44%, or 7 points less) It is higher among the voters of Jean-Luc Mélenchon (14%, or 7 points more) and relatively similar among the voters of Marine Le Pen (9%). , i.e. 2 points of more) and abstainers (14%, or 2 points less)”.

A another investigationcarried out by the pollster Ipsos for La Tribune Dimanche gives the same figures and places its “level of favorable opinions at 20% and that of unfavorable opinions at 59%. Unliked François Bayrou? This is obviously very clear. The pollster adds cruel comparisons: “The unfavorable opinion rating of François Bayrou is higher than that of the other Prime Ministers appointed by Emmanuel Macron since his re-election (59% against 39% for Elisabeth Borne, 37% for Gabriel Attal and 33% for Michel Barnier).

It must be said that the vast majority of French people consider that the Prime Minister’s first steps have been a failure. According to another study by Elabe, this time for BFMTV68% of French people say they are “dissatisfied with the composition of the new government, including 44% rather dissatisfied and 24% very dissatisfied”. 64% of French people also believe that “the decisions of François Bayrou’s government are going in the wrong direction”, compared to 35% in the right direction.
