The France Identity application, which brings together the digital identity card and the driving license, welcomes a new function: data communication by NFC. Perfect for proving your identity while protecting your data!
The France Identity system continues to grow! As a reminder, it takes the form of an application available free of charge on the Play Store and the App Store, which allows you to dematerialize your identity card and driving license to store them in your smartphone, and thus easily authenticate yourself. on online services via FranceConnect. Since April, France Identity has also made it possible to make proxies 100% paperless, without having to travel (see our practical guide). This June 19, the device welcomes in beta version a particularly practical new feature: data communication by NFC. A way to prove your identity in a reliable and privacy-friendly way during face-to-face interactions.
France Identity: controls without any exchange of personal data
To access this new function, you must select “Experiment – Present your data” in the application. A new card then appears on the screen, including the user’s photo as well as their first and last name. Note that it rotates slightly when you move the smartphone.
This new feature makes it possible to prove one’s identity not visually – which carries a risk of falsification of the digital document – but cryptographically, thanks to NFC communication – the technology used for mobile payment or to use certain transport in common – between the smartphone and the terminal of the person carrying out the control. Therefore, no personal data is transmitted during checks.
This NFC function must, ultimately, be used by SNCF controllers to verify the identity of travelers using France Identity. For the moment, checks are limited to visual inspection. HAS In the future, the function could also be used for various interactions with professionals and individuals. Its official launch is planned for the end of the year.
