The founder of the 5:2 diet gives his best health tips

The science journalist Michael Mosley is known, among other things, for having written books about sleep and eating habits and shared his own health journey in a documentary on the BBC. He can also be seen in the documentary “Live longer with Michael Mosley” on SVT Play.

Perhaps his most famous idea, the 5:2 diet, came about after Mosley was diagnosed with type-2 diabetes. Little did he know that interest in the diet would explode and become a world phenomenon.

– It really wasn’t something I had expected, I was puzzled. I have no idea why it became so iconic, he says.

The reason he created the method was because he wanted to get rid of his diabetes.

– Now eleven years have passed and it has stayed away, so for my part I won. There is research that the diet works, but of course it is not the right method for everyone.

Addresses the criticism that the diet triggers people

Over the years, Mosley has received criticism from world health organizations who claim that the diet can trigger people to develop eating disorders.

– I know others who have fought against eating disorders and one of my close friends is a psychiatrist who works against eating disorders. I am aware that it is a dangerous condition with a high mortality rate.

At the same time, he believes that there are many different studies that show that there is no evidence that the 5:2 diet triggers eating disorders.

– Then if you already suffer from an eating disorder, find the diet and maybe try it, it can of course make your condition worse.
