Sjöstedt signs his Facebook page that he has agreed to run, and that he has been nominated by his party association in Umeå.
“It would be fun to make a new election campaign as a candidate for my party, and I know how much power the EU Parliament has these days. I want to use that power to pursue left-wing politics, tighten climate policy and work for the EU as a collaboration between democratic countries – not a superstate that gathers too much power in Brussels,” writes Sjöstedt.
Now the party members must decide which candidates will be on the list, which will be adopted on January 20 before the EU elections on June 9 next year, he writes further.
Sjöstedt was the leader of the Left Party 2012–2020, member of the Riksdag 2010–2020 and EU parliamentarian 1995–2006.
