Estonia celebrates today the country’s former president Arnold Rüütel state funeral in Tallinn.

Rüütel, who died at the age of 96 at the turn of the New Year, was a prominent figure in Estonia’s struggle for independence.

The president of Finland will participate in the commemoration Tarja Halonensaid the Office of the President of the Republic yesterday. Halonen will give one of the commemorative speeches at the event

The Estonian public radio company ERR will broadcast the program of the funeral day live.

Rüutel was the president of Estonia in 2001-2006.
