The former president of Estonia Arnold Ruutel has died

Former President of Estonia Arnold Rüütel has died. Office of the President of Estonia by Rüütel died on Tuesday evening at the age of 96.

Estonian media reported last week that Rüütel had to be hospitalized and that his condition was serious.

Rüütel, who served as the second president of post-Soviet Estonia, was in office from 2001 to 2006. In those years, the former communist supported Estonia’s accession to the EU and the military alliance to NATO, among other things.
