He is one of Swedish sports’ great giants.
We never forget the iconic Ingemar Johansson.
But there is a forgotten video clip that astonishes all Swedes to this day.
Few Swedish sports heroes in history can match the legendary one Ingemar Johansson. He wrote unforgettable, Swedish sports history and was loved throughout our country.
Ingo’s success
He became “Ingo” with the entire Swedish people and conquered the world as a heavyweight boxer. It started with Olympic silver in 1952 and he became European champion on two different occasions, but the greatest success came in 1959.

Then Johansson became immortal by sinking the rival Floyd Patterson in an iconic feat match and was crowned World Heavyweight Champion. In the same year, Ingemar was named “Sportsman of the Year” by the American magazine Sports Illustrated and also “Athlete of the Year” by the news agency AP, two heavy awards that few other Swedes have received.
Unknown talent
The icon Ingemar Johansson unfortunately passed away in 2009, he was 76 years old. Today we remember him as one of the great prides of Swedish sports and with an impressive boxing career, where he fought 28 matches and won 26 of them.

But there is another side of Ingo, which few know about. A forgotten video, see it below, from 1960 that reveals a most unsuspected talent of the boxing icon that amazes all Swedes to this day.

This slugger actually had a lovely voice and proved it when he sang Swedish songs on foreign television with the American singer and TV personality Dinah Shore. It’s actually an absolutely incredible vocal effort that Johansson offers and you really feel proud as a Swede, see the video below.
