The Foreign Ministry says that Swedes can soon leave Gaza

The first of the more than 500 Swedes in Gaza can leave “soon”.
This is stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the news agency TT.
We expect that Swedes will come out shortly, says Svante Liljegren, head of the consular unit at the Foreign Ministry.

During Monday, the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt was opened to foreign citizens. This after the border was closed this weekend.

During Monday and Tuesday, foreign citizens were able to get out – but not Swedes.

Svante Liljegren, head of the consular unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, now tells the news agency TT that the first of the more than 500 Swedes who are in Gaza should soon be able to leave.

– Now we are waiting to receive information on Tuesday evening if there are any Swedes who are advertised for border crossing during the day, he says.

Swedes can come out “soon”

– We expect that Swedes will come out shortly.

Over 500 Swedish citizens or people with a Swedish residence permit have contacted the ministry and asked for help to leave the area, which has been war-torn since the terrorist group Hamas attacked Israel a month ago.

Liljegren states that the Swedes who will leave Gaza will be allowed to cross the border a few at a time.

– We assess that all Swedes in Gaza will not be allowed to cross the border at the same time. It is also not certain that everyone who has expressed a desire to leave Gaza can make it to the border, he says.
