After a fairly unsettled start to winter, the first weather forecasts are in for the rest of the season and the start of spring. Cold, rain or sun, we now know what to expect.
After a very rainy 2024, what does 2025 have in store for us? For the second half of January, a calm period is looming. “This period could be quite lasting and cover a large part of the end of January,” announced The Weather Channel in his four-week forecast. Temperatures should even gradually rise until they exceed seasonal norms. As for precipitation, it could return to the Channel coasts and the north at the end of January, but in a more limited way than at the start of the month.
This drop in precipitation will be confirmed in February, especially south of the Loire and near the Mediterranean basin. It could be penalizing for those who plan to go to the mountains during the winter holidays, starting on February 8 for the first zone.
However, fairly cold nights could maintain the already established snow cover. An observation confirmed in the seasonal forecast of The Weather Channel. “Drier and above all milder weather” should generally be established for “the second part of winter” with the dominance of anticyclonic conditions.
In March, winter will end and give way to spring. A precipitation deficit is modeled with temperatures still pleasant for the season. A rise in a southerly flow remains possible, leading to an increase in rain and storms in the extreme south of France. “This month of March could mark the establishment of a dry spring in France”, predicts The Weather Channel. Excellent news therefore: the start of spring will be early and this year.
For April, beautiful days, particularly over the Atlantic arc, could alternate with some disturbances, including stormy showers. Temperatures should be seasonal. The reliability of forecasts for this month, given the lead time, remains very limited.
Temperatures over the February-March-April quarter should therefore be generally 1 to 2 degrees above seasonal norms. The Weather Channel even gives a first trend for the month of May which could be expected to be “cool and humid”. If the rest of the winter promises to be drier, the start of spring could be pleasant, but followed by a very gradual deterioration between April and May.
