The creator and founder of the Microsoft company, Bill Gateshe made reference to yesterday at the conference TED2022 to a talk given in 2015, where he warned of a possible pandemic which society was not prepared to deal with.
He stated that he hoped that the current crisis of COVID-19 will prompt his audience at TED2022 in Vancouver, Canada, to pay more attention to his advice on how to prevent another pandemic wreaking similar havoc on society.
“When I was on this stage in 2015, I was one of many people who said that we were not ready and that we had to be ready. We did not. The speech was actually seen by many people, but 90% of the views were after it was already late, “said this businessman.
The world was “not ready for the next pandemic”
Bill Gates stated in 2015 that the world “was not ready for the next pandemic” and that viruses represent the “greatest risk of global catastrophe” in relation to other threats to humanity. This video obtained 36 million reproductions since its publication in this year.
Despite insisting to governments on the investment in health technology and medicine in this same year, the United States cut funding for virus prevention agencies shortly thereafter. The Trump administration has shut down the entire global health security unit of the National Security Council and eradicated the US government’s $30 million Complex Crisis Fund.
“The coronavirus, it’s hard to overstate how horrible it’s been”, Gates detailed to immediately argue about the impact of the pandemic, promoting health inequalities between rich and poor.
It encouraged rich countries to join in implementing systems that would help fight the next large-scale pandemic while the tragedy of COVID-19 continues to haunt human lives. Until now, he assured, the World leaders have taken less action than initially expected.
