The photograph of the Fomalhaut debris belt was shared by NASA on May 8, 2023. Located inside another belt placed around the star Fomalhaut, the disk of debris surrounding the star was captured by the telescope’s MIRI instrument. The outermost disks were already known to scientists, but the space telescope made it possible to observe for the first time an intermediate ring as well as an inner disk made up of ice and rocks.
