The followers’ clear appeal to Stina Nilsson – the answers after the unexpected success in the wrong sport: “Think about it!”

Stina Nilsson was successful and won in the wrong sport this weekend.
Now the followers are all saying the same thing.
“Why not switch back?”, writes one.

The switch to biathlon has not gone as Stina Nilsson had hoped. She was the great sprint queen on the women’s side, and won both World Cup and Olympic gold as a cross-country skier. Initially, it also looked good when she took the step over to biathlon.

Nice revenge

Nilsson showed early on that she could challenge the best in the world, but since then the development curve has gone in the wrong direction. From having been a given in the World Cup, Nilsson in the last year mostly had to focus on competing in the IBU Cup, and that she was completely pushed from the WC this winter was a setback.

Once Nilsson got the chance in the world cup, the efforts have been disappointing, and experts have been amazed at what actually happened to Nilsson. The fact that she does not belong to the absolute top tier in the world on the shooting range is one thing, but Nilsson has also had ride times that were not at the top, which puzzled many. But there is no doubt that she is still a good cross-country skier.

Followers’ call

Last month, Nilsson won a long race at home in Malung, and during the Easter weekend it was time again. Nilsson won the Idre-Särnaloppet, a long race over 4.2 miles, when she was the fastest of all 167 runners who came to the start. On Instagram, Nilsson commented on the nice revenge after the tough season:

“This is how you celebrate Easter if I get to choose,” she writes.

In the comment field on Nilsson’s picture, tributes pour in, but there are also many followers who say the same thing; namely that she should resume cross-country skiing.

“Why not switch back? It was a bit unique to see you challenge Linn and Jonna again!!! Think during the holidays!”, writes one follower.

“Awful Stina! Want to see you in more cross-country races now again,” writes another.

Of course, it would have been exciting to see Stina Nilsson compete in cross-country skiing again – but we are also quite sure that next season will be a step forward in biathlon for Nilsson, who has a winner’s skull of rank!
