The organizers of the Fjällräven Classic, which runs between Nikkaluokta and Abisko, have decided to carry out the event, despite the stomach bug that affected a number of hikers along the route and at the Kebnekaise mountain station recently.

“Since no official restrictions have been issued by the authorities, we have decided to carry out the Fjällräven Classic, but with special measures to support the hikers,” write the organizers on the event’s website.

This means that some of the hiking event’s collection points are moved further away from the Swedish Tourist Association’s facilities, that own dass is transported out and that there are medical personnel at all collection points.

As a result of the stomach bug, the Swedish Tourist Association has previously decided not to accept spontaneous visitors for some time to come in its stations and cabins along the trail, but only pre-booked guests.

This year’s Fjällräven Classic runs August 11–18. Last year, the event had around 2,000 participants from a wide range of countries.
