Among the many video game adaptations coming to the cinema, the next one is none other than Until Dawn, scheduled for April 25, 2025. Sony Pictures has just shared a first video, a sort of first look with the first images of the film, but above all the explanations of the film’s screenwriter, Gary Dauberman and its director David F. Sandberg, known for Annabelle 2, but also the vile Shazam 1 and 2. The latter returns to his first love, horror and gore, with this desire to shake up the basic concept of the Supermassive Games game a little. The idea is in fact not to follow the story of the video game (which we know by heart and which would be of no interest since we know the outcome), but to play with a time loop. The protagonists, stuck in an inhospitable place, find themselves the target of a serial killer, except that each time they die, they immediately come back to life and are then forced to relive the same events, while trying to survive until dawn. There is, however, a nice little feature, which is that each “respawn” gives rise to a new type of horror film.

A subtle and clever way of moving away from the original concept to better surprise the viewer, while keeping the very essence of the video game, which consists of making choices and assuming the consequences afterwards. In the cast of David F. Sandberg’s film, we will find Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, Odessa A’zion, Belmont Cameli, Maia Mitchell and the actor Peter Stormare who already played the role of the psychoanalyst in the video game . The release of the film Until Dawn is scheduled for April 23, 2025 in theaters.
