The grain corridor agreement was also on the agenda of President Erdogan and Russian leader Putin, who met in Sochi. Speaking after the summit, where the world turned his attention, Putin said that they want to revive the Black Sea Grain Corridor, but that they can return to the agreement if the promises given to Russia are fulfilled. President Erdogan, on the other hand, said, “We have prepared a new proposal package with a consultation with the United Nations, which includes significant progress. I believe that it is possible to get results through this new process.”
“WE ARE GRATEFUL TO TURKEY”
After the Erdogan-Putin meeting, the first statement came from the Washington administration. Making statements to CNN Turk, the US State Department said, “We call on Russia to implement the grain agreement. The United States and the UN are grateful to Turkey for their efforts to mediate the life-saving grain initiative.”
