The first real snowfall of the season is expected on Wednesday in southern Norrland. Expect about a decimetre of snow.
– We are in a season when it is completely normal to have snow. But the first heavy snowfall always comes as a bit of a surprise, says Therese Fougman, meteorologist at SMHI.
She says that Tuesday’s rain in the southern parts of the country continues north during the evening and night. In Medelpad, Jämtland and Ångermanland, the rain turns to snow.
– The snow starts just south of Storsjön and covers both the inland and the coast. There will be snow or slush on the roads, says Therese Fougman.
The snow then continues a bit into Västerbotten and southern Lapland, but in smaller amounts. In northern Norrland, however, SMHI expects a break during Wednesday.
On Thursday, the heavy snow weather is over and on Friday the whole country can count on mild weather.
The quick winter visit can be a reminder to change the tires on the car. On December 1, winter tires are required when winter road conditions prevail. That is, when there is snow, ice, slush or frost on any part of the road. Studded tires are allowed from 1 October.
