BATMAN. The dark knight is back for new adventures against the Penguin, Catwoman and the Riddler. The first critical notices fell before the release of “The Batman” this Wednesday.
[Mis à jour le 1er mars 2022 à 9h18] The Batman is expected at the turn: after the success of Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, many fans wondered about a return of the dark knight to the cinema. The choice of Robert Pattinson to embody Bruce Wayne did not reassure some, who remember, wrongly, his unloved appearance in Twilight without thinking of his more daring forays into auteur cinema (Good Time, The Lighthouse…). Before the release of Matt Reeves’ film this Wednesday, March 2, 2022, the first press reviews have been published. And they have something to reassure the most skeptical spectators.
The Batman reviews. The Batman garners 87% positive reviews on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. In France, the critics are also conquered. First believes that this thriller is “an undeniable success of incarnation and aesthetics”, deploring however “a scenario which struggles to rise to the same level”. For the specialized magazine Cinemateaser, the feature film is “a radical and imposing gesture”, “anchored in a solid plot but firmly directed by the emotions of its characters”. The spectators will find themselves immersed in a thriller, discovering the Batman investigator that the seventh art had hitherto only little evoked. Still mired in his youthful traumas, the masked vigilante seeks revenge by fighting crime in an ultra-realistic and dark Gotham, even more so than Christopher Nolan’s proposal a decade before. The JDD salutes for its part “a violence, a brutality and a cruelty worthy of the thrillers of the 1970s, despite an action ultimately quite static which does not avoid lengths”. Fans should definitely be wowed by this new cinematic take on The Batman.
