The first German Disney+ series is based on a shocking and true story

The Disney+ streaming service will soon be expanding its series portfolio with numerous European in-house productions. You can now stream the first German original series from Disney+. Told over 7 episodes Sam – A Saxon the true story of the rise and fall of East Germany’s first Afro-German police officer.

Disney+ tells the tragic story of Saxony’s first black policeman

The crime drama series is both a biopic and a harrowing look at racism and right-wing extremism at the time of reunification from the perspective of an Afro-German. Sam – One Thing is based on the memoirs and experiences of the former police officer Samuel Meffire.

As an Afro-German citizen of the GDR, Sam (Malick Bauer) is confronted with racism and exclusion on a daily basis. But Sam doesn’t give up and starts working for the People’s Police. After the fall of the wall, Sam’s life takes some unexpected turns.

As the face of an advertising campaign against xenophobia, East Germany’s first black police officer became a media star in the early 1990s. At the same time he works with a special unit, the Put a stop to right-wing extremists should. And then it suddenly goes downhill for him.

Over time, Sam slips further and further into crime and finds himself suddenly on the other side of the law again. A dangerous flight to Africa finally begins for Sam, during which he is confronted with his own past and origins.

The series was developed by showrunner Jörg Winger (Germany 83 to 89) as well as Tyron Ricketts and Christoph Silber. Soleen Yusef (Germany 89) and Sarah Blasskiewitz (Ivie wie Ivie) were responsible for the staging.
