Ebbessons in Bjäre has pulled up the first fresh potatoes of the year.
And this year, the growers on the Skåne peninsula have chosen to donate a few kilos to the retail chains.
– They can do what they want with them, but what we have said is that the money should go to charity, says Jesper Ebbesson.
On the Bjäre Peninsula, the first fresh potatoes of the year have been harvested.
– We don’t have much for winter here in Skåne anymore, so we can get started and drive the fields and plant at the beginning of March, says Jesper Ebbesson, potato grower.
The first potatoes of the year look “perfectly fine”, but Ebbesson hopes for a good harvest this year.
– It is a highlight of the year to be able to get started and harvest. It’s great fun, he says.
Bestows the harvest
In previous years, the first kilos of potatoes have been auctioned off to the highest bidder, but this year the growers at Bjäre have taken a different route.
– We have chosen to donate a few kilos to the retail chains. Then they can do what they want with them, but what we have said is that the money should go to charity, says Jesper Ebbesson.
The potato grower’s best tip for preparing the first fresh potatoes of the year is simple.
– Cook them carefully in a little salt and butter. There are many different recipes, but the first ones are cooked and eaten as they are, he says.
