Apple still seems determined to release a foldable iPad within the next few years, but the company would like to innovate on a specific point and take its time.
Rumors surrounding a foldable iPad have been growing louder on social media for several months now. While many technophiles are still waiting for a potential foldable iPhone, Apple would like to first test this technology on a touchscreen tablet before considering a smartphone.
Unfortunately, the foldable iPad seems to pose a lot of design problems for Apple. The firm wishes to deliver a finished and 100% reliable product. As is often the case at Apple, the company does not want to blindly launch into a market without being certain of providing a mature, solid and interesting response from a commercial point of view.
According to Mark Gurman, journalist at Bloomberg and very familiar with internal news at Apple, the Cupertino company is working on a vague “2028” to launch its first foldable iPad. The latter would be quite massive and the size of “two iPad Pro placed end to end” which would make it a particularly large device once unfolded.
In addition to the gigantic work that such a device represents, Apple also wants to offer an internet fold that is barely visible and sensitive to touch. A feat still highly coveted by multiple manufacturers like Samsung or Google and which remains difficult to achieve today.
The foldable iPhone would still be planned by Apple, but again, no model would see the light of day for at least several years according to Mark Gurman.
