It was on August 16 that staff from the County Administrative Board in Östergötland took immediate care of 125 dogs at a kennel outside Linköping. It is the biggest concern that the authority has made regarding dogs.
SVT Nyheter Öst has previously reported that several dogs were completely apathetic, others were so stressed that they bit and hung from the cage. The amount of urine and faeces made it difficult for the county board staff to breathe. Dogs in cages were stacked on top of each other.
Out of 125 taken into care, the County Administrative Board has decided that 56 dogs must be euthanized, 26 of these have been appealed by the kennel owner. Some of the dogs have been relocated, for 11 dogs no decision has been made.
– Where we wanted an additional veterinary assessment to be able to make well-balanced decisions, says Helen Loor at the county administrative board.
Within the next few days, 13 of the dogs will be up for sale. Even before the advertising began, over 600 people had contacted us with an expression of interest.
– There are a huge number of people who have contacted us. They have come in continuously since the care was taken, says Kristoffer Hellberg.
In the clip below, Janina Pfalzer at the Swedish Kennel Club talks about the report of concern they made after a visit to the kennel.
