The first 6 months are very important for circumcision

Circumcision is the removal of the skin at the tip of the penis that covers the urine exit hole. Although circumcision has many benefits, it can cause serious problems when done incorrectly. Parents need to do a thorough research before circumcising their child. Experts underline that circumcision is more accurate in the first 6 months. Eskişehir Private Ümit Batıkent Hospital Urology Specialist Op. Dr. Aydın Erkul gave information about the benefits of circumcision, in which age groups it can be done and to whom it should not be done. Stating that circumcision is one of the oldest surgical interventions in the world and its medical benefits were noticed and spread even in primitive times, Dr. Aydın Erkul emphasized that circumcision has been practiced throughout history as a requirement of tradition in different societies or as a prerequisite in some religions.

BENEFITS OF CIRCUSNESS

Stating that circumcision has many benefits, Erkul explained them as follows:
“It prevents the formation of Inflammation of the Penis Head (Balanitis). Under the foreskin, stuffy, scum and secretions accumulate and the space area that comes into contact with urine prepares the ground for the formation of balanitis, circumcision prevents this. It prevents the development of penile cancer. All men who develop penile cancer are, without exception, uncircumcised men. It prevents urinary tract infections. The area under the foreskin prepares the ground for the settlement and reproduction of bacteria that cause urinary tract infection. It prevents sexually transmitted diseases. AIDS is 4 times more common and genital ulcers are 3 times more common in uncircumcised men. It prevents the development of phimosis (the foreskin being narrow enough to prevent urine outflow).

WHEN SHOULD CIRCUSNESS BE DONE?

Erkul said that circumcision can be done at any age, but “The important thing in this regard is that the child is psychologically ready for circumcision and that he is at the age and mindset to understand this change in his body correctly,” and underlined that the recommended age for circumcision is the newborn and the first 6 months. Stating that the wound site heals very quickly during this period, as the cell renewal and development capacity is at its highest level, Erkul also pointed out that the possibility of surgical and psychological complications is very low in this period.

CIRCUMSTATION IS PSYCHOLOGICALLY NOT SUITABLE FOR BETWEEN 2-7 YEARS.

Erkul said, “If there is no medical urgency and necessity, the age of 2-7 is not suitable for circumcision due to the psychological development process. It is recommended to perform circumcision under local anesthesia during the neonatal period and the first 6 months. In the older age group; It is appropriate to perform circumcision under light general anesthesia, which we call sedation, in order not to turn it into a trauma or stress for the child, and to prevent him from experiencing fear.” said. Mentioning the situations in which circumcision should not be performed, Erkul said, “Children with Prophet’s Circumcision (Hypospadias), children with penile curvature (Chordi), children with buried penis and children with small penis are children who should not be circumcised.”
