Firefox version 102 offers new security features, limits the opening of a window during downloads and fixes many bugs.
Mozilla has just released the new stable version of its Firefox browser. This version 102 first reinforces user security. If you activate the option strict In Enhanced Tracking Protection, the browser will automatically remove parameters from website addresses. Indeed, some of these parameters can be used to track you. This option is available in the section Privacy and Security browser settings.
However, be careful, as some websites may not work when this option is enabled.
Mozilla has also enhanced browser protection by isolating the process responsible for decoding sound. Thanks to the sandbox technique, this process cannot influence other elements of the browser if it becomes corrupted, for example during the exploitation by hackers of a possible security vulnerability.
The browser also benefits from a practical function which makes it possible to avoid automatically displaying a window when you launch a download. To do this, right-click on the downloads icon at the top right (this icon is visible when you have downloaded at least one file).
Then uncheck the box Show panel when download starts.
Mozilla has also improved the management of subtitles when you use the mode Picture in Picture for displaying videos. Subtitles now display correctly with services such as HBO Max, Funimation, Dailymotion, Tubi, Disney+ Hotstar, and SonyLIV. The editor has fixed many bugs, including one that did not activate the correct element when the key was pressed Hall to activate listening aloud in the browser’s reading mode.
Finally, Linux users will be able to use the modular geographic information service GeoClue. This implements the D-Bus messaging system. Its objective is to facilitate the creation of applications using localization.
