The third competition of the Frisbee golf European tour was thrown in Sipoo, in the area of the Joensuu estate. The professional competition was part of Europe’s largest frisbee golf event, Tyyni Open, with a total of 794 players.
In the open class, three laps on a technical track was the best Lauri Lehtinen, whose total roll number of 154 entitled the par reading to be 26 under par. He won the competition by a safe margin of five shots before Pursue the Swan and Tuomas Hyytiää. Reigning European Champion Niklas Anttila was fourth.
Last year, Lehtinen, 20, led the race before the last water crossing, but fell on penalties and lost the championship.
Now there was quite a difference, and Lehtinen didn’t feel the pressure.
– The victory feels really good after the disaster of the previous year. Longer shots were of good quality all weekend, and a bad putt didn’t hurt.
The first place in the women’s category was thrown by a player having a great season Heidi Laine with a result of +8.
World number one Estonia, which dominated women’s frisbee golf Kristin Buckwheat was in the first round, but had to drop out due to an elbow injury.
In the video below, the performances of the winners Heidi Laine and Lauri Lehtinen.
Finns dominate European frisbee golf
The European tour’s stop in Järva in Stockholm was the only blemish on the Finns’ winning streak, but even then Anttila finished second. In addition, about meritorious players, for example Väinö Mäkelä and Seppo Paju have not recently participated in EPT events.
Lehtinen, who has become Finland’s best player in the world rankings, went behind the bat this season to try out how the corner holds up among the world’s best.
He considers the level in Europe to be much lower than in the United States.
– With this game, I would have been in the top ten in the Yankees. However, I believe that the top of Finland will be able to challenge on a good day.
The European frisbee golf scepter has long been held by injury-plagued Germany Simon Lizotte. He has lived for several years in the top country of the sport, the United States, where he has won several top competitions this season.
The next Frisbee Golf European Tour competition will take place in Estonia at the end of July. Another EPT competition will be organized in Finland, when the 12th-14th will be thrown in the Aninkais of Turku. August.
In two weeks, Nokia will host the prestigious tournament European Open, which will feature the world’s top names.
