The reigning champion Florida Panthers opened their season in the hockey NHL with a bang. In their opening game, the Panthers beat the Boston Bruins 6–4.
Eetu Luostarinen scored Florida’s 2-0 goal by Anton Lundell and by Sam Reinhart input. Team captain Alexander Barkov assisted Florida’s 3-1 goal, which he finished with an underpowered effort Reinhart.
Boston Bruins goaltender Joonas Korpisalowho made 29 saves. The match started in a festive mood, when the Stanley Cup championship banner was raised on the ceiling of Florida’s home hall.
NHL history was made behind Seattle’s bench
The Seattle Kraken lost to the St. Louis Blues 2-3 at home. The match that ended in a loss did not give Seattle supporters a reason to celebrate, but NHL history was still made at the edge of the rink.
Seattle assistant coach About Jessica Campbell became the first woman in the NHL to work full-time as an assistant coach for her team. Campbell said he understands the magnitude and importance of the historic moment for hockey.
– The children who will be in their first hockey game tomorrow know that there can be a female coach behind the bench. That’s really important to me, Campbell said.
– I am rewarded every day when I know that I am part of something much bigger than myself, my work and coaching.
The Canadian Campbell played in the CWHL professional league during his career. Before joining the Kraken, he worked as an assistant coach in Germany, in the Nürnberg Ice Tigers playing in the DEL league, and in the German men’s national team.
All the goals in the game between Seattle and St.Louis were scored in the second period. Seattle Kraken’s Finnish forward Eeli Tolvanen was responsible for the 2–0 hit.
A raucous opening in Utah: Lauri Markkanen on skates
The new NHL team Utah Hockey Club met the Chicago Blackhawks in their first NHL game. Before the start of the match, Utah’s superstar of another sport, the Utah Jazz of the basketball NBA league, skated on the ice Lauri Markkanen. Markkanen got to drop the opening puck of the match with the owners of the Utah ice hockey team.
