Finnish AHL veteran Joona Koppanen gets a new opportunity in the NHL.

Koppanen has been playing in North America since 2018, but a 27-year-old Finn has only played nine NHL matches before Tuesday’s quick posting. The man’s previous NHL match is last March.
– Some of our players have small bumps, so we made the decision to call Koppanen up, Pittsburgh head coach Mike Sullivan reported on the NHL website.
– He is able to fulfill a certain role if he is put in the line -up. He can play both in the middle and on the edge. But the biggest reason for the invitation was that he has played really well.
Koppanen has accumulated respectable 356 AHL regular season matches with points 51+84 = 135. He is the most AHL regular season matches in Finland, a player who has learned his hockey lesson.
Pittsburgh will face the New York Islanders on Wednesday morning.
