The Finals open beta is a complete success and makes the shooter the most wanted game on Steam. But why is the F2P title so popular?

What kind of game is this? The Finals is a new PvP shooter that will be released as a free-to-play title for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and will be produced by the Swedish developer “Embark Studios”.

  • The Finals puts you in a virtual arena where you fight for victory in a game show in 3v3v3 matches. In each mode, your goal is to collect more money than your opponents.

    What makes The Finals so good? In terms of gameplay, The Finals is characterized by two main aspects: extreme destruction and vertical gameplay.

    You can destroy almost everything and tear down entire buildings in The Finals. You have various explosive gadgets, a sledgehammer or gas bottles at your disposal. In general, the destruction of the cards should be a tactical element.

    However, you can also forego destruction entirely and sneak up on your opponents with a katana or a dagger and strike them down from behind. How you play is entirely up to you.

    The second big feature of The Finals is the vertical gameplay. You can access almost any building with a zipline, jump from roof to roof and jump meters into the air using jump pads. Since there is no fall damage, you can really overdo it.

    There were repeated phases over the weekend when inviting friends or accepting an invitation wasn’t what the players wanted. In addition, the servers occasionally crashed and you were kicked out of an ongoing match.

    Sometimes you were the only team that wasn’t thrown out of the match. However, this was not automatically counted as a victory, but you had to either leave or continue playing without an opponent.

    If Embark Studios can fix the beta’s problems before release, shooter fans can finally expect a game that’s fun to play with The Finals.
