Last December, Amazon ordered a third season for its biblical mythology-inspired fantasy series Good Omens. The return of David Tennant and Michael Sheen as the demon Crowley and the angel Erziraphael is still planned – albeit in an extremely slimmed-down form.
The reason for this are serious allegations of sexual violence that have been making the rounds against showrunner and original author Neil Gaiman for several months.
Amazon announces 90-minute fantasy finale for Good Omens – as a consolation prize instead of season 3
At the beginning of 2025, Tennant and Sheen are scheduled to return in front of the cameras in Scotland for a feature-length special to bring their series Good Omens to a speedy conclusion. According to Deadline, Gaiman was still involved in the development of the final chapter, but will no longer be part of the production under the Blank Corporation banner. We are currently looking for a replacement author.
Gaiman officially withdrew from the Good Omens production in September of this year. The reason: In the summer, the British news site Tortoise Media reported on two women who said they had experienced sexual violence at the hands of the fantasy author. Other alleged victims spoke out in the wake of these revelations, which also brought production on the Disney project The Graveyard Book to a halt.
Co-showrunner and director Douglas Mackinnon had resigned long before that, in October 2023. Either way, the Good Omens finale would have felt a little different than the first two seasons when it returns to Amazon for the apocalyptic rest.
